2 senior citizens to join House race

IRIGA CITY – Two Senior Citizens here have expressed their intentions to join the congressional race in the upcoming 2010 elections.

In an interview with Bicol Mail, former Camarines Sur vice governor Mariano “Anoy” Trinidad said that despite his losses in past elections, his aspiration still remain and he is optimistic, that the people of Rinconada would be on his side this time around being the most qualified among those yearning to replace out-going congressman Felix Alfelor.

“But my decision as regards to my political plans depends on who will be my opponents, ta kin sira man sana maray pang magdalagan liwat ako” Trinidad stressed referring to Vice Governor Sal Fortuno, former mayor Manny Alfelor and Nestle Phils Vice President Jay Magistrado Dimaiwat.

“Ono sa pag-una mo a gigibohon ni kulot sadto kongreso? Si Sal, ono man a naginibohan kadi ku sadto pa iya? Uda man iya puedeng ipag-ablada kindi sa diri kono niya pagpalta ”(What do you think this Alfelor is going to do in Congress? What about Fortuno, what did he accomplish when he was still there? He has nothing to be proud of or brag about but his alleged perfect attendance)” the septuagenarian lawyer said.

Though some people tagged him as nuisance candidate as he consistently got anemic votes during the 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007 elections, Trinidad was a certified crowd drawer who made people laugh every time he takes the center stage to tell the people about his platform of government.

In a separate interview, a 69-year-old retired government worker who introduced himself as Loreto Magistrado, said he is ready to go against anyone in the next elections. “With my qualifications and the financial support from my London-based relatives, I see no problem if I run for Congressman” he, stressed.

A reliable source told this writer that this old man was the same person who was once escorted to leave by security officers of the Sangguniang Panglalawigan a few years back for allegedly trying to join board members in one of their sessions.

While some political observers here believed that the congressional race could be just between Alfelor and Fortuno, others are quick to respond that Dimaiwat cannot be underestimated; citing his qualifications as his formidable weapon, against the veterans.

Alfelor and Fortuno both declared their intentions to run for congress during their birthday bash on different dates last January. Dimaiwat, on the other hand, has started laying this foundation for his congressional bid by initiating laudable environment-friendly projects in Rinconada.
